Andrea Montero

A natural singer and tambourine player from Miño (A Coruña), she began her journey in traditional music in 2001, at the age of just six, with the O’Castro Cultural Association in her hometown, continuing a family legacy of female singers (cantareiras), under the direction of Fransy González, one of the most prominent voices in Galicia. Since then, she has dedicated her life to Galician music, delving into its tradition and learning directly from the women who, generation after generation, have kept the traditional songs and rhythms alive.

Through her research and collection work alongside her sisters and cousin, with whom she forms the group Lilaina, she has been able to gather and share the richness of Galician culture. Currently, she works as a teacher of traditional singing and percussion in various cultural associations, contributing to the transmission and preservation of this heritage.

She is also part of notable projects in the current Galician scene, such as Baiuca and Xosé Lois Romero & Aliboria, and has collaborated with initiatives like the Galician Jazz Orchestra and with artists such as Vetusta Morla, C. Tangana, Ariel Rot, Kiko Veneno, El Naán, and Kepa Junkera, among others. In all of her collaborations, she works to ensure that traditional Galician music finds new spaces to be heard, always with respect and love for its roots.
