He was born in Guédiawaye – Dakar ) into the family of guewels. Oumar also began playing at a very young age and soon joined the family group, with which he performed at all the city’s events.
At the age of 20 he decided to leave Senegal and begin his professional career as a musician in Europe. He settled in Barcelona and from the very beginning started performing with local and international artists.
In recent years, besides being one of the main percussionists of Ngomez Nokass, Oumar Ngom has become the percussionist for Nakany Kanté, with whom he has performed in venues across the country. He has also been part of the theatre company Àfrica-Catalunya, with which he produced the children’s show Pell de llarinté, cua de tiré.
In addition, he is a member of the percussion group La Kolmena, a collective of 12 percussionists who use a sign-based conducting system to create a live show that is original and unique at every performance. Oumar Ngom is also one of the regular percussionists on the European tours of Senegalese singer Sidy Diop.
