Iberian Ensemble

with

This workshop will focus on exploring the synergies between the different percussion instruments of the Iberian Peninsula.

Percussion instruments play an essential role in the musical tradition of the peninsula and were primarily played by women. What they had at hand became a musical instrument, transforming the everyday into sound art. The richness of these instruments, both in terms of timbre and rhythm, is of incalculable value.

In this course, we will work with the square drum, tambourine, mortar, frying pan, scallops… exploring their phrasing, techniques, and traditional repertoires from different regions of the Iberian Peninsula, with a focus on their evolution and the possibilities of ensemble playing. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a special class with Andrea Montero, where you will be introduced to the techniques and rhythms of the Galician tambourine.

This course is aimed at musicians, both amateurs and professionals, who already play Iberian percussion regularly and wish to deepen their skills.

It is essential that participants bring at least a square drum and a tambourine. If you do not have them, you will have the option to rent them.
