Oral transmission through singing with instrumental accompaniment has been and continues to be essential for the preservation of culture and emotional expression in various communities; not only to keep traditions alive, but also to create a space for connection and understanding.
In this course, we will focus on the fusion of singing and its accompaniment with percussion instruments, exploring different techniques and repertoires that are part of the cultural identity of various regions of the peninsula. We will work with instruments such as the square frame drum, the tambourine, the mortar, and the scallop shells, and we will explore different singing styles and the importance of rhythm in music.
For this course, it is recommended that you have some prior experience with percussion, even if it is not professional.
It is essential that participants bring at least a square frame drum and a tambourine. If you do not have them, you will have the option to rent them.
