This year we once again dedicate a gathering to Senegal.
Why?
Because we are passionate about the music and dance of West Africa, and because for some years now we have had the great fortune of having, very close to us, outstanding masters and active representatives of this culture. We wish to invite them to share with us the legacy and wisdom they carry, passed down from generation to generation from the motherland.

With Oumar N’Gom we will learn how the sabar speaks and how to understand the architecture of its polyrhythms. With this instrument, some of the most powerful and energetic rhythms in the world are performed, created to be danced with the same intensity—something we will explore with Michel N’Dione through his dance.

The kora whispers melodies and accompanies stories told over centuries. With Momi Maiga we will discover ancestral repertoires and explore new expressive possibilities of this fascinating instrument. And finally, through Adama’s voice, we will learn to narrate and sing stories that sustain the memory of a people.

Senegal opens its doors to us through the Mandinka, Wolof, and Serer cultures: peoples for whom music is not entertainment but living memory; where rhythm is language and dance a way of life.

Guided by three male masters and one female griot (djeli), guardians of the oral tradition, we will enter a space where history, community, and art become one and the same reality.

A gathering to remember that tradition stays alive when it is shared.
