Percussion as accompaniment to singing in the central Iberian peninsula

with

The Iberian Peninsula holds a diverse musical tradition in which singing has accompanied agricultural tasks, celebrations and everyday life.

In this workshop we will approach instruments such as the tambourine and the square frame drum, key rhythmic supports in large areas of Castile and Extremadura. We will address their technique and their function as accompaniment to singing, exploring different styles documented through fieldwork.

The aim is to understand these instruments not only as rhythmic tools but as vehicles of identity and personal expression within a living tradition.

All levels are welcome in this workshop; you just need to bring a Peñaparda’s square frame drum and a tambourine.
