FROM 17 de agosto TO August 23th
A thousand cultures, one shared root
In almost every region of Spain and Portugal there are cultural expressions that we share: the jota, the rumba, rhythms in 5/8, and the different ways of understanding the bolero and the seguidilla. However, in each territory these forms have evolved in a unique way, generating distinctive styles of singing, playing, and dancing, in addition to styles that are unique to each region.
Sometimes the differences are enormous, even when they stem from the same roots. It is precisely there that the identity of each region is revealed: in the way people relate to one another, in the landscape —whether there are mountains or plains, sea or inland areas—, in the presence or absence of water, in the nature that surrounds communities and also in the nature that lives within them.
These particularities allow us to perceive the immense cultural richness that lives in these territories, and we embrace it as a treasure from which to learn and which we seek to honor.
That is why we have chosen a group of people who have experienced their traditions up close and who will be able to show us, first-hand, the cultural legacy they represent.
We want everyone to leave with an overall understanding of what will happen at the Encuentro, so unlike other years, the idea is that each student will have the opportunity to take part in all the workshops.
How will it work? If you are enrolled in Anna’s workshop, for example, every morning during the first session you will be with Anna, but later, during the second session or in the afternoons, you will rotate through the other classes so that you can take away the best from each teacher.
The wind and dance group will be the only ones that will always be with your main teacher ; however, you will still visit the other classes.
